The winter coat gets more exposure (see what I did there?) than any other item in our wardrobes for at least 4 months of the year. So, if you’re investing in just one great piece this winter, make it count. Don’t worry about trends so much – what really matters is fit, warmth and comfort. As a tall girl, focusing just on these three things is challenge enough without having to worry about paying homage to AW16 collections. Top tip: avoid coats with obvious waists or fixed belts because they’re never going to be in the right place. Here are our Top 5 winter coats perfect for tall women.
HøF Top 5
ASOS Oversized Coat, £70 – as discussed in our recent post on oversized winter woollies, take advantage of the wealth of oversized styles available on the high street and online. We love this wool-blend knitted coat from ASOS with it’s warm oatmeal colour and gloriously long sleeves. You could belt it if you’re feeling particularly chilly, but we recommend keeping the coat open with slim-fitting garments, such as a body or a roll-neck, underneath.
Essentiel Antwerp Mazanfur Coat, £429 – if you are on the hunt for a glamorous evening coat, nothing says luxury like a flash of gold and a shearling collar. A sneak preview of Zoe in this stunning metallic coat – coming soon on HøFSisters.
Pomandere Navy Wool Coat, £490 – if, like us, you prefer visiting your local independent boutiques to high street shops, you may well have heard of Pomandere (found in KJ’s Laundry, for example). This little-known Italian brand makes a mean wool coat. HøF loves to wear this one a size up so it sits a little looser on the shoulders for a boxy look, perfect over skinny jeans.
Joseph Double Cashmere Lisa Long Coat, £695 – when you’re spending this kind of money on a coat, it’s an investment piece. Cost per wear becomes the most important consideration, and that means high quality and timeless style. The Lisa coat is these things and so much more. Perfect for layering, it is a classic Joseph design, and this winter it is available in black or oatmeal online. Han bought it in dark grey many years ago and still wears it almost every chilly day. Swap the belt out to mix it up and if you’re between sizes go for the smaller one.

TOPSHOP Tall Longline Slouchy Coat, £79 – and for our final pick, if being on trend is your priority, then this slouchy, oversize, pine green coat is a great option. Wear with ankle boots, cuffed trousers and a chunky roll neck knit.
