If you follow us on Instagram, you may notice that this is our second foray into the world of split hem trousers. We weren’t convinced that they could ever be flattering, but both Zara and now & Other Stories, with these these split cropped jeans, have proven us wrong. And all the better for us tall ones, because the split hem fudges the fact that high street trousers are often a little short. Well, the split hem and the pop of colour from the red ankle boots, which are (along with my Kooples dress) my purchase of 2017 to date.
For as long as I can remember I have had a tendency to buy ankle boots on a whim and then never wear them. I could never really work out what to wear them with. Were they meant to go under bootcut trousers or over skinnies? Were they meant to be worn with mini skirts or midi skirts? And with tights, or socks perhaps? Occasionally, I would go on a mission to pair them with something in my wardrobe, only to give up an hour later when my entire wardrobe was on a pile on the floor. Well let me save you all that hassle, dear Tall Girls. Wear them with cropped jeans. And if it’s split cropped jeans, all the better. The chances are the jeans will be a little short for you with normal shoes on, but add the ankle boots and you’re winning!
Coloured ankle boots are dominating the shoe counters of high street stores this Autumn so you’re not going to be short of choice. These red beauties are from Topshop who, as you may know, typically only go up to a size 42. I’m a 42.5 and wearing the 42 here. They do fit with pop socks but it’s snug. That said they’re so soft I can walk and dance for hours in them without a problem. And they’ve had a lot of usage in the last few weeks, both in London and Cape Town – as happy with cropped jeans as they are with a little summer dress (like this).
There’s one more treat in store with this outfit. It’s this “boyfriend” Ella shirt by Daisy Knights – a tall girl gem with its glorious long sleeves, loose fitting shape and cutest of pineapple designs on the back. What self-respecting, handsome, eligible man walking behind you wouldn’t want to discover who’s the wearer of this “So Sweet” shirt?
