Genuine floor length is ever so exciting when you’re tall, don’t you think? The excitement of having your hems dragging in the dirt.

Or maybe that’s just me.

I do have a thing about maxi dresses though. Mostly because they remind me of being at a festival. Which in itself makes me happy.

Personal affinity aside, maxis are such an easy-to-wear outfit. Throw it on, and away you go. The problem of pale winter legs can be ignored for another day, and we can get on with the more enjoyable things in life.

Finding a maxi dress when you’re 6ft can be a challenge. Also, it can have the unfortunate effect of elongating, especially if it’s a block colour, when what we really need is a bit of definition.

Last week, Zoe and I checked out Rick Owen’s DRKSHDW line in Urban Outfitters. I immediately pounced on this tank maxi dress – figure hugging to the floor with extra fabric to spare. The khaki-brown has a soft illusory effect so I don’t feel like one long column and the racerback is flattering on my broad swimmer’s shoulders. An undone leather jacket adds balance to larger hips and the gold Reebok trainers add drama to an otherwise muted outfit. The latter were an impulse buy but I suspect they will be featuring heavily in my spring/summer wardrobe!

For the record, HøFSisters are big Rick Owens fans; everything is elegantly elongated, plus he has designed what is possibly the loveliest biker jacket we have ever seen. The Rick Owens biker jacket will live on the wish list until I win the lottery, so if you’re in the market for a cheaper alternative I can vouch for a Muubaa, which I’m wearing in the main pic. They’re a steal on The Outnet, but beware not all have long sleeves so check the product measurements (ideally 49cm or above).

Take it to the maxi.
