“More polka dots?”, you may well ask. The truth is, I was hunting for a blouse to wear with these fabulous high waist, wide leg jeans from Apiece Apart, when this spotty number caught my eye in Topshop. I was smitten. The wonderful thing about polka dots is their versatility – they are suitable for all ages and occasions. Opt to pair your polka blouse with a contrast midi skirt, as per last week, for an elegant summer party look; or with a high waisted pencil skirt for an chic office outfit; or, as I have done here, with denim and block heels for a more relaxed weekend vibe.
I’m glad I bought this blouse when I did, because I’m sorry to say it’s completely sold out nationwide. And unsurprisingly so, with its monochrome spots, elegant, balloon sleeves and on-trend wrap style, this “plisse blouson top” is a sartorial winner. But never fear, there are others like it, like this one at Zara, plus you will find links to a few more at the bottom of this post.
As for these stunning Apiece Apart jeans, they nail the new AW17/18 season’s high-waist, wide-leg silhouette but the soft pastel blue makes them perfect for cooler summer days too. A refreshing break from skinnies, boyfriends, girlfriends and moms, these culotte-style jeans work best with a cropped blouse or something fitted on top to highlight the waist. They come up a little large, especially around the waist, so if you’re in between sizes you can afford to go down one. The A-line shape looks fantastic on long legs, and the fashion world’s continuing love for cropped styles is a blessing for us tall girls!
Block heel sandals continue to dominate the footwear scene and I’m delighted, because they’re so incredibly comfortable and, like the blouse, can transition from day-to-night and office-to-party so well. These are the same ones from Next that I wore a few weeks ago with white jeans and gingham. Sadly they’re now sold out but you can find similar styles in most high street stores, including these from Aldo (usually a 9, I fit into an 8 in Aldo shoes), these from ASOS and these from Next.
The striped handbag has just landed in Zara and there’s no better way to complement monochrome polka dots than with a monochrome striped accessory. It comes with a cross body strap, should you get fed up with carrying it around, but I personally love the mini-briefcase feel about it, and at £30 it’s a lot of statement bag for your buck. The black and white stripes also tie the blouse and the shoes together beautifully.
In truth, I’m really mad about this outfit. The spots and stripes add a playful vibe to a fairly grown-up denim style, and the block heels add sophistication without sacrificing comfort. And as we always say at HøFSisters, feeling comfortable and at ease in your clothes is the most important thing when it comes to fashion.
Beautiful outfit! Just love your style!
Thank you so much Alexandria!
