First of all, apologies for the title. I had a particularly frivolous weekend in Cape Town and it’s the first thing I thought of when I started typing. Call it a lack of sleep, or over-indulgence or just blonde. The skirt‘s not even mustard. It’s really a beautiful yellow which L.K.Bennett aptly calls ochre. Whatever you choose to call either my incapacitated brain or the colour of this skirt, the latter is a thing of beauty. Plus, maybe it’s just me but Colonel Ochre doesn’t really have the same ring.

Having a bit of a yellow and blue theme on HøFSisters right now, following on from the Really Wild knit and Baukjen leather jacket of last week’s January Blues. I wouldn’t typically subscribe to mixing primaries, but if you can get the tones right, yellow and blue are a match made in a very elegant, sophisticated and grown up heaven. Admittedly, my antipodean pink hair detracts a little, but perhaps I’m more badult than adult. Anyway, I digress, mix one measure of yellow suede skirt with a hefty dose of navy, and chic will be yours.

The skirt is wonderful but the winner of this look (in my addled mind), and my favourite item in the new season collection at L.K.Bennett has to be this navy and yellow, classic with a twist, soft wool jumper.
It’s actually remarkably hard to do such a beautiful jumper justice in photographs when wearing a coat (forgive me, it was near freezing). But I hope my efforts to candidly let my coat slip to to my elbows to reveal the yellow will be forgiven. While on the subject of this very elegant trench… It’s from Jigsaw and currently in the sale at £159.

With the demure cut of this yellow suede skirt, I craved an edginess which could only be satisfied by ankle boots – in this case in the form of my old patent navy boots from Next. They shifted the outfit towards my preferred, call it socially liberated, end of the sartorial spectrum. I haven’t worn them much since my cropped denim and ankle boot phase (see on Instagram here) but this seemed the perfect moment to dig them out of my closet.
So, happy mixing, Dear Friends, and I hope this cheerful yellow will take you through to next week’s blog and a return to the winter sun.
Colonel Ochre, over & out.
