2016 has been an eventful year to say the least, sartorially speaking of course (the rise of “populism”? Nah). Aside from being HøF’s nascent year (Grazia-worthy news ?), we have seen the return of crocs, velvet and tweed, as well as a dramatic shift in the denim landscape. Skinnies are a thing of the past. Looking forward, the new denim dawn is cropped, wide leg, raw-hem, slim boyfriends, cuffed girlfriends, the 70’s and other such cuts. And let’s be honest, skinnies are stupidly uncomfortable – like having your lower half slowly constricted by an anaconda – all day long. So, we think this is a good thing.
To wrap up 2016, we thought we’d take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of our favourite times, and of course the outfits we have loved wearing the most – and which, looking at the stats (sorry, a little bit geeky), you guys loved too. What’s more, we’ve included where to shop them, or similar looks, in the post-Christmas sales. Enjoy and shop away by clicking the links!
It is SO hard to shop the high street when you’re tall. Everything is geared towards the 80% of the population which fits into the “normal” height category. Get around this by taking advantage of the oversized trend. These H&M coats were a popular buy but you can find amazing bargains everywhere now, like this fantastic oversized hooded trench coat from Zara with extra long sleeve tabs for just £39.99, or this Cooper & Stollbrand oversized coat down to £132 from ASOS. Keep a slim silhouette underneath.
Long legs truly are a blessing. Yes, it may be tricky finding a decent length pair of jeans on the high street, but it doesn’t matter because nearly EVERY cut of trouser is going to look great so try something new! These wide leg cropped wool trousers from Marella, in a greeny-grey with a belted high waist and mini pleats are bang on trend and perfect for work or fun. You can find something very similar now in the sale at Ralph Lauren, £119, or a stunning white pair at £99, again from Ralph Lauren. Yes, do wear white in winter! Make sure you cinch in that waist tight to get the perfect silhouette, pairing with a slim fitting tee like this one or else with a fine knit turtleneck or roll-neck. Wear with slingbacks, Mary Jane’s or ankle boots and a cross body bag.
It seems lots of people search online for “leather trousers for long legs” – so Google Analytics tells us. They’re hard to come by – these ones are from one of our favourite Danish brands, Second Female, which is stocked in independent boutiques as well as Zalando online. Leather can be paired with a casual oversized knit and trainers for a dressed down daytime look. With tight leather on the bottom half, it’s best to have a longer, looser fitting top half to keep on the side of chic, rather than cheap, and also to balance out proportions. If you want the look but don’t have the budget, try these leather look trousers from ASOS Tall.
We may be wearing skinnies (so last season) but this one had to feature in our Greatest Hits of 2016 because these fantastic Unreal Fur coats are now an absolute steal at £95 from Question Air. CLICK THIS LINK TO SHOP. Perfect for throwing on over a little black dress or skinny jeans, these jackets are very special.
Believe it or not, this is our most popular Instagram post of the year so we must be doing something right… The Tall Order coats are now 50% off – you can shop them here. There’s a lot of different textures and trends going on in this photo – metallic, naval, over the knee, sequins and even some chevrons – which makes it all a bit more interesting. In 2017, try mixing things that you hadn’t thought to before – colours, textures, materials and shapes and see what happens.
