It is now definitely allowed (& positively encouraged) to wear sequins for the rest of the year. At a friend’s Thanksgiving dinner this weekend, I left a path of glitter and sequins, like a festive version of Hansel & Gretel. Except my version is better because I am Hansel, shedding my sparkly, sartorial breadcrumbs as I head off for a second round of roast turkey, and Gretel is… Well, needless to say, I highly recommend getting your sequin on.

ASOS Sequin Espadrilles, £18 – need there be any more proof that sequins can be worn throughout the day? Up to a size 9 and outrageously cheap. Plus, there’s 20% off on Cyber Monday with code: GOGOGO
Marks & Spencer Midi Skirt, £49.50 – this is a great midi length, best on women over 5’8. Style with a plain black camisole top or a fine cashmere knit and pointy black heels with an ankle strap like these from Zign (image at bottom). Great discoveries like this sell out quickly, so if it’s not in your size online use the store check facility to see if your local M&S has one.
Scotch & Soda Sequinned Clutch, £189.95 – if you prefer to keep your sequins to accessories, then a clutch is a easy way to add razzle dazzle to an evening outfit. This one from fantastic Dutch brand Scotch & Soda is big enough that you don’t have to choose between your lippy and your blusher. Looking for something a little less extravagant? Try this one from Boohoo.com.
ZARA Sequin Printed Top, £29.99 – sequin top of Hansel & Gretel fame (ref opening para in case you missed it 😉). I happened to hang it on a Balenciaga hanger in my wardrobe (I don’t actually own anything from Balenciaga – the mystery as to where it came from remains) and it struck me, when I pulled it out a few days later, that this top could genuinely be from Balenciaga. The pointed, 80’s style shoulders give it a high end feel and perfectly balance out a tall frame. I paired it with my favourite high-waisted J.Crew mini, 30 denier tights and metallic Ted & Muffy ankle boots.
House of Harlow 1969 Sequin Bolero, £148 – wear this wonderful gold bolero over an LBD for glamour and festive spirit. Or you can throw it on over a t-shirt and pair of jeans to instantly smarten up a casual outfit. Mixing smart and casual is rarely done but so rewarding. Play around with items in your wardrobe you would never have considered mixing. If it doesn’t look right, tweak again. Maybe add a pair of socks over tights, peaking out over the top of ankle boots, or wear a fine roll-neck under an old dress for a fresh vibe.
