HøFSisters explore the colour palette with tonal dressing

In 2 weeks time, I’ll be back in London for a brief visit. And I know when I start digging through my winter wardrobe, currently buried away in a box under the stairs, that it’s going to be as colourful as a long, cold winter night. Which is why I am particularly excited about writing this blog post. You likely will have guessed by now that we took these photos before I left for Cape Town. We got our hands on the AW17/18 Jigsaw collection a little early and I wrote about how impressed I was in our silk shirt giveaway, when I wore this lovely leather skirt. Well these two gorgeous coats are from that collection, and they inspired us to inject our dull winter wardrobes with some vibrant colour and explore the art of tonal dressing.

I wrote about colour blocking back in the summer, when I clashed red and pink head-to-toe. This worked because I opted for a similar tone from two different colours. For tonal dressing, it’s a similar idea but instead we opt for different tones within the same colour spectrum. Zoe and I have slightly pared back this idea by wearing neutral camisole tops instead of pink or green, only because HøF tends to err on the side of minimal style. But it certainly can be done!

Tonal Dressing: Zoe of HøFSisters wears green.

Combining greens when tonal dressing.

Zoe wears sea green wide leg trousers with a pastel green coat, both from Jigsaw. The sleeves on the coat are ok, but they’re not particularly long, so you might want to layer it over a long sleeved jumper or just roll them back if it’s warm enough. The silk cami she is wearing I bought a few months ago from Intimissimi, but it can be substituted for anything else green or neutral, and the shoes are her favourite metallic gold loafers from Lucy Choi London. A perfect outfit to take you from office to bar.

Explore pink: tonal dressing

Combining pinks when tonal dressing.I’m wearing the 7/8 trousers from Boden in a size 12 Long. They really are a wonderful fit and I’m tempted to buy them in a black too as they’re so flattering and insanely comfortable. The coat truly is oversized so you may want to go down a size. Personally, I LOVE it being so big; it makes me feel tiny inside a giant embrace. Like being picked up by a tall, muscular adonis of a man. Anyway, I digress. Again I’ve paired it with a simple camisole top and my ever-present, much-loved white Superga. But this would look equally lovely – and more office ready – with a pair of pink or neutral heels.
